Ruckus AP firmware upgrade

Ive been struggling with upgrading some of our 7363 APs today. I have one which fails to be upgraded.

 

It get an error in the console which says: Failed to upgrade AP[mac_address] image from [9.1.0.3.27] to [9.10.2.0.11] after [16] retries.

 

Can someone tell me where i might be going wrong? I've tried to login to the AP after a factory reset (holding in the reset button for 6 seconds and hold reset button whilst plugging in power for 30 seconds).

 

I've tried to access the web portal too with super and sp-admin but these details dont let me in.

 

Nothing i do seems to let me in.

HI @timbo343. Try this. Take the AP off your network and factory reset the AP. Access the AP on it's default IP 192.168.0.1. Try upgrading its firmware to standalone FW 100.x. Then put it back on your network. I would also delete the AP from the ZD before putting it back on your network. If that doesn't work, please let me know and we can help further Hope you have a good weekend.

I tried the 192.168.0.1 way but couldnt get it to connect to the laptop, it was connected via a little switch too rather than a crossover cable (if that was needed).

How can i access the AP if the AP wont let me into it via the web console with super and sp-admin.

run wireshark, are you sure its been reset to factory default?

I've plugged up the AP to a laptop with a straight through ethernet cable from AP to Laptop. Configured the laptop with 192.168.0.5 255.255.255.0 and ran wireshark.

 

Attached are the results.

 

Ive got another 2 which wont join the controller but yet can ping them and get to the web login screen. Even holding in the reset button for 6 seconds doesnt make a difference.

I didn't think 7363 APs was able to have firmware beyond 9.8 as its now End of life?

My controller is running 9.10.2.0.11 and ive got my other APs running the same firmware.

I can see the AP sending out for DHCP requests so it looks like it boots normally.

If you can't ping it on 192.168.0.1 after a factory reset (pin in the hole for 10 seconds whilst powered) I would suggest requesting an RMA / RTF from Ruckus.

Ensure that your adaptor is in this subnet and you are using a standard cat5 cable.

Just a bit more on this. Ive seen that the AP is using 10.42.0.1 and i can connect to the AP on this address when attached to a standalone laptop.

Sounds like it hasn't been factory reset... or if it has it has been reset and plugged into a network with DHCP.

 

Can you web browse to the AP via that IP and load standalone AP software on it?

 

You may need to factory reset and take off the network as it may be under mgmt from your ZD... which we want to avoid until we have a newer FW on it.

I can browse to the AP, but cant login with super / ad-super. Ill try the reset (10 seconds hold reset) to see what it gives me.

The AP will be under ZD mgmt then. You can login with ZD admin credentials but you wont be able to load any firmware until it has been factory reset.

 

If you want to keep it on the network and not isolate it for the FW upgrade please disable "Approve all APs automatically" under Configure - Access Points on your ZD then FR the AP.

 

Or just FR it off the network without changing this ZD settings.

The ZF7363 is still supported; we're running a set of 75 on 9.12.2.0 build 101 and the latest build supports it as well.

Its not plugged into the network. Its connected to a standalone laptop and still getting a 10.42.0.1 IP after a hard reset. Ive got 3 which are all doing this. My IP range is 172.16... not 10.42... but its strange how all 3 get 10.42.0.1 after a hard reset off the network.

 

I cant login to the AP when its at 10.42.0.1 with defaults.

Nope i cant get in. I would have thought a factory reset woulf have "factory reset" the AP.

Yes it should do unless the reset isn't performing correctly.

Try again for 15 seconds in the pin hole.

 

We may need to RMA this AP but I have never seen an AP that won't FR correctly.

Just to update this. Ive factory resetted a working AP and that to ogets a 10.42.0.1 ip address however when in plug the working AP in to the network, the ZD detects it.
