Youtube and IE11 error

Hi all

 

We're seeing odd Youtube behaviour and i cant find the problem

 

Using ie11 and win7 32bit. Youtube videos do not play at all, they try to load and the cog/icon goes round and round forever. This is html5 player. The weird thing is that if i reset ie11 settings to default then the videos play through the html5 until a logoff or restart.

 

This suggest that a gpo is causing the problems but i dont know what could be? Does anyone know where to look first before i go through the horrible process of changing a setting at a time in gpo!

We have the same issue. I found that sticking YouTube in the compatible sites list seemed to sort on my PC. Was hoping that it was an update that broke it, but it doesn't seem to be going away so that might be a long term fix. Alternately, we've told staff to use Firefox for YouTube as it's installed on all of our PCs.

I've got a similar issue with IE11, Windows 10. YouTube just brings up an error on all videos. Doesn't work in Edge also.

 

Just installed Google Chrome and videos are playing fine with HTML5 player.

 

Seems to be a Windows 10 issue as Windows 7 devices are all playing HTML5 fine.

Hmmmm...youtube HTML5 player is working fine in Edge and IE11 on our Windows 10 installs. Are you guys behind a proxy? Is it attempting to use the old flash player instead of HTML5?

We have only a few on Windows 10 so far but it works fine on our PCs.

 

After a refresh or two it then kicks in the flash player version and then the videos play fine.

 

Ive only seen it a few times so far but haven't spent a lot of time trying to get to the bottom of the issue.

I had this exact problem, make sure you have the latest ADMX for internet explorer and using server 2012+ to set them

 

make sure you tick Enable alternative codecs in HTML, Play animations in webpages and play sounds in webpages.

 

By default this seems to be turned off on the GPO

We already have the same settings applied. Its working in compatibility mode but ideally we'd like it working on html5

To be honest I haven't had chance to look at them yet, but I did notice something in the notes from one of the latest Windows 10 builds. Let me see if I can find it.

 

"We fixed the issue with Intel HD Graphics 3000 or Intel HD Graphics 2000 GPUs causing rendering issues and instability with Microsoft Edge. If you mitigated this issue by using software rendering instead of GPU rendering, you can go back to GPU rendering."

 

That might fix the issue? As Intel 3000 is the model on the laptop am having issues with.

no - we're in windows 7 like the original poster, and its effecting more than just machines with intel graphics

oops sorry. As far as I know we don't have an issue on W7.

Just came back to this one as youtube stopped working in flash for us. (only runs if flash is on the absolute latest version)

 

It now works fine in html5 again. no changes to anything on our system.

 

error at their end, a windows update or possibly a filtering issue i guess.

Dell Optiplex by any chance? There's an issue where Youtube won't work unless you install the Dell sound driver (the Microsoft driver just hangs). It doesn't just stop sound from working, Youtube just refuses to play (with the spinning circle giving no indication of what is causing the error).

 

There was a massive thread on answers.microsoft.com (which I can no longer find).

 

edit: if it works when you plug headphones in, but doesn't work without headphones, it could be this

we did have optiplexes but it effected non optiplexes as well

 

actually, we do have that error, but we've been using it as a feature as it stops the kids watching youtube during lessons.

all the staff pc's have sound.

This is only affecting my Dell Latitude e5530s, I thought it was the graphics at first Intel HD something I can't remember. It's only a few staff members that have got this laptop and we'd told them to use Chrome in which it works fine.

 

I haven't tested the Anniversary update as yet.
