coconurtaler Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Just wondering what action schools have taken if 1:1 devices provided to the students are not returned when they leave as per the AUP. Do you phone, write, small claims, or 'send the boys round'
Oaktech Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Never had to do it with a 1:1, but with staff: Phonecall, Friendly letter, Less friendly letter, Letter with red writing on it, Invitation to small claims court to discuss it.

Pretty much this, although we never had to revert to the court case considering those costs. It would be considered theft because the device is technically owned by us until fully paid for.

We paid for a solicitors letter and submitted papers, but the laptop came back when the staff member received the solicitors letter.
coconurtaler Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 What about student ones? Has anyone had any problems getting devices back after they leave or do you have an arrangement where they get to keep the device?
unixman_again Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 With us, devices supplied to students are theirs, so it isn't a problem. With staff iPads, a phone call did the job in the one instance it wasn't returned. I guess we could use Meraki and/or Apple Device Manager to lock the staff iPad. I don't know if Meraki can lock an Android device, which a couple of staff have. Meraki does show where the device is, so we could send the heavies around!
