[sims] Solus 3 Browsing AD failed

Any ideas as to what causes browse AD computers to fail ? In the ui_systemlog I get this :-

 

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007203A): The server is not operational.

 

It's been like this since it was installed, but we don't have Sims.net on a lot of desktops - this is going to change soon

I had issues with solus 3 not pushing out to certain machines. I disabled the Windows firewall and started working normally. Put an exception in and all good

Firewall is disabled on the Domain and on the SIMS server too

Are the desktops able to ping your SIMS server and vice versa?

Yes, even with hostname

Is the SIMS server on the same domain?

It is, I can browse network computers fine, it's just browse AD computers that doesn't work

And you can ping the domain name (both short and fqdn) from the sims server?

I can ping the domain with both yes, which makes it weirder Checked DNS for the SIMS server and it was missing (static address) so I added that and still no difference Edited May 24, 2016 by caffrey

Can you install the ad tools (mmc snap ins) on the sims server and they work ok?

I just used dsquery to list all PC's on the domain with no issues, but I'll try the tools

i get this often here, usually a reboot sorts it when you can do it. i have sat for ages looking for a failed service etc, but now i just reboot.

This may be a strange question but have you turned UAC off on the desktop computers?

UAC is enabled, would that cause the issue ? Everything works fine except for browsing the AD. I can push out the client manually using the name of the PC without a problem
