You can't install 10240, upgrade to 10586 and then run Sysprep. It's not a supported or allowable scenario, but in saying that, it might be possible with Redstone.

 

Personally I would always re-build from scratch - it takes time, but the results are better.

Yeah I'll re-build them, like I said our images aren't big so won't take me long to redo them.

 

Really hoping that first login is speedier, as our older devices could be upgraded to 10 as well if that's the case.

It was an upgrade from the insider program. Are the ISO's available for clean build?

Fewer isn't good enough for business and education. The correct answer is none... nada... zero. Having gone to the effort of making a whole separate SKU and ISO for education how long would it take them to give a out-of-box clean base without resorting to LTSB?

 

Back to Powershell and DISM it is then *sigh*

They have just released build 14342 and will be making the iso's available soon. They released this build to the slow ring so it can't be that far off the final build candidate.

We've just tried Windows 10 Pro insider build 14332 on a 6 year old Core i3 with a 2.5" 7200rpm hard drive. Once joined to the domain first logon is a massive improvement over 1511. The "Preparing your desktop" stage of the logon (after group policy processing) took 14 seconds on this system. This was with all default universal apps removed apart from the calculator and store and using a local profile (Edge, Cortana, and other universal apps that cannot be removed were left enabled i.e. not blocked with AppLocker). On this test system with 1511 the "Preparing your desktop" stage would have taken well over a minute. If only this was going to be released to VLSC in mid-July! I'm guessing it will be more like mid-August until we can get our hands on it. Edited by Winner

This is Microsoft all over. Take out the home and maybe business users. I'd assume most of us do our big refresh over the summer? I've seen a fair few people on here over the last 12 months saying they are waiting until this summer to roll it out - now MS drop a big update . Excellent timing MS.

 

Oh and Server 2016/SCCM 2016.............. Should call it 17 by the time they decide to release it ha

AFAIK you should be using SCCM to manage "ring" updates, rather than rolling out whole new images?

We have two options -

 

1. new build which will probably take a day or two and by some of the comments on the forums that seems to be the general consensus.

 

2. Sccm 2016. We restructured our AD with one eye on our new MAT we have - essentially started a fresh AD setup for the Trust and we took the decision to wait for 2016 SCCM and go clean from there for management and deployment trust wide.

 

We have just short of 2000PCs over the summer on our main site means we will probably just roll with our current Win10 Enterprise build and look to update a few months later, but it would of been helpful to have the update earlier.

 

Hopefully the updates won't destroy our work of getting rid of the bloatware. Hahahahaha

well, ive just looked at the Anniversary update and i can honestly say im not impressed at all! Ive got hold of the 14332 iso for Enterprise and on a clean install, there's more crap on the start menu and it takes longer to login at first login, this is without using get-appxpackage or DISM. What i have found is the packagenames have all changed so it means editing the DISM strings so they are all correct. What have they done!?!

 

I wish they did an LTSB version that got updates. Surely this would be education / enterprise? Why can't they leave the crapware out of these versions and leave it in for the Home and the new Pro version they have released!?

Does anyone know if the Windows ADK (which includes the ICD) for the anniversary update is available at all? I know it's needed to enable shared PC mode for local AD-joined Win 10 1607 systems, was hoping to test this that's all.

That's about 2 weeks into the holidays, hopefully the ISOs will be available on that day and we can all start our new builds.

 

This has got me nervous as I really would like to start deploying the newer update at the start of the hols. In fairness though, we've got it down to about two weeks to get almost everything rebuilt so in theory we should be able to do it but would be happier if we had our hands on it beforehand.

Yeah it would have been nice to have it sooner, might be good to get the other jobs done first and then do the reimage later in the holidays.
