Cache Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Hi all Can someone let me know where I'm going wrong because I'm stumped. I have enrolled an iPad in DEP, I have linked this up to Meraki and I've assigned a profile to it. So far so good, reset the iPad, DEP pulls down the profile and installs it. Excellent. The ipad is now prompting me for an iTunes account to install the meraki management app. Not good. I thought the whole point about using DEP was that it would install the apps without requiring an iTunes account, but I'm now not sure what step I've missed out to be able to make it work. Can anyone advise as to what I need to do? Thanks
PR-UK Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 The apps need to be installed using VPP rather than the 'Apps' section in Meraki. If you're using the 'legacy' Meraki then you won't have device based enrollment so you'll not be able to silently push apps to iPads, they would need an Apple ID and that Apple ID enrolled in VPP. 1
Cache Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 No it's not the legacy based one, it's the new one so I can see the DEP ipads, I haven't got VPP set up as I'm still struggling with school manager at the moment. Perhaps that's why...
tmoon-mint Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Yeah thats why, you need to "purchase" licenses for the free apps in the VPP store and then you wont get prompted for an Apple ID. 2
Cache Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 Thanks, have spent an hour on the phone to Apple this afternoon to try and get the account sorted, hopefully making some progress...
Bev Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Once you get the VPP account set up, it works quite well. You have to buy the apps on https://volume.itunes.apple.com/ then you to into the VPP page on Meraki, and 'SYNC' and the license will appear. Then you go to the Apps page and 'add' the app. Which seems like an unnecessary step to me, but until you do that you can't assign it to any PCs. On the 'App' page, there is a tick box on the specific app that says 'assign using VPP license' and that has to be ticked.
