Hi Guys,

Hope you can give me some much needed help!

Having issues with DPM 2012r2.

Im trying to back up a virtual machine but have suddenly starting getting the following error

DPM failed to communicate with the protection agent on because access is denied. (ID 42 Details: Access is denied (0x80070005))

Ive googled the issue but i keep getting resolutions for servers in a non trusted domain scenario, my servers are on the same domain.

i followed this link and have made sure the account DPM is using is a member of the appropriate security groups

DPM failed to communicate with the protection agent

but still getting the same error, it was working fine which is the confusing thing, this error only occurred last week, nothing has changed on the server, no windows updates have been installed.

any ideas?

Is it only the 1 protected server effected? Do other servers backup fine?

Have you completely removed and reinstalled the agent on the effected server?

Can you do a system state backup on the effected host? If not, have you tried doing it locally on the host using wsb?

Hi rrrrr,

im currently only backing up two servers, the host which is backing up just fine, im backing up system state, BMR and the C:\ drive on that one without any issues. Its the VM on this host that im getting this error with.

I havent tried removing/reinstalling the agent yet, its gonna have to be done out of hours anyway, but just wondered if there was anything else to could try before doing that

Have you tryed doing same backup task locally on the host with WSB?

A reinstall of agent would be my 1st port of call. Also make sure the credentials used for the agent are a member of local admins on the problem server
