cookie_monster Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 To allow the use of sims with restricted users we run the simsperm.bat file after install, this can sometimes be forgotten so i'd like to automate the process. Anyone here managed to integrate the settings into a security template for use with group policy, or do you have a better way? Cheers.

Can i not just apply the GPO to an OU containing SIMS stations tather than filtering it by security group? Can't make users Power Users as they ca't be trusted that's why we removed them from that and started using the bat file.

Do you apply your policies high up the directory structure then filter by security group rather than apply to an OU and filter as well if clients within there have different requirements? sahmeepee Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 (edited) I've not had any problems applying these file and reg settings via GPO to whole OUs. If the files don't exist on the machine, i.e. if SIMS isn't installed, it'll just do nothing. Search for the other simsperm threads.. I'm pretty sure I've posted our GPO settings for this in the last few months. cookie_monster Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Ok i've imported the settings into a group policy and it has applied to the stations but i've noticed an issue: If the station has SIMS installed after the policy is applied it doesn't seem to alter the permissions even after a few reboots. If i log on and run gpupdate /force the permissions are changed. Anyone else get this? Does the policy need to be enforced? Cheers.
sahmeepee Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 It's a machine policy so it should automatically apply at the next reboot assuming you don't have any connectivity problems. We've not experienced any issues with it here. Try running RSOP.msc on a PC that hasn't picked up the setting and have a poke around the machine half to see what gives..

If i run gpupdate /force then the settings are applied, other settings are applied at startup so i don't think it's connectivity. @ jinnantonnix, can't see any settings on temp folders. I'll keep an eye on it. Cheers.
RichCowell Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Does anyone know if there's an updated simsperm.bat file? The one I can see looks like it only covers XP/32bit machines... We gave up installing SIMS locally and just published it as an app on a terminal server, but having got PARS now it needs to be installed locally again... so the headache's back... (Just realised how old this thread is! It was the first result in Google searching for simsperm.bat lol... I'd have started a new one if I'd realised...) Edited May 14, 2014 by RichCowell
3s-gtech Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 With SOLUS3 running as a service, it's no longer needed (at least where you have that option). I suspect most would advise moving to that option - it's a lot easier (when it's working). 1
