KibosJ Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Is it a brand new Smoothwall box that needs completely setting up from scratch or do you already have policies and things installed?
mikkydoos Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Smoothwall support are pretty good for us. Have you paid for it or is it a freebie ?

If Smoothwall won't even help you get up and running with a new box, I can only see things carrying on going down hill even after its installed so might be worth returning it and buying something else?
mikkydoos Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 There arent any GPO's as such... its mainly Kerberos authentication and SSL certificates that need setting up.
zag Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I'd advise starting smoothwall simple, forget BYOD and its more advanced features. Setup 3 proxies, one with Kerbos on a port and another with no authentication on another port(for testing mostly). And lastly a transparent proxy with no authentication. Assign your groups to AD OU's and your pretty much good to go. Whats the actual problem?
woodham Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 the problem is im fed up of ringing support for help and not recieving it, we have had smoothwall for around 6 years maybe longer and up untill the last year or so it has been fantastic , then they moved there support model and somthing else changed but i dont know what and since then when ever i ring for support it takes days to get a reply and then its usually Oh we cant do that or they ask you to do somthing and when you ask how to do it (i understand gp and server side stuff) they are unable to offer advice or instructions our setup is as a transparent proxy using the software based product installed on a duel quad core rig with 32G ram and multiple gig nics
zag Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Yep i've had similar poor experience with their support recently as well, I guess its because they grew too big
