pCounter Embedded and Windows Updates

Morning all,

 

Last night my print server decided to restart for some reason. Due to this happening several windows updates were installed. These seem to have knackered our pCounter Embedded software and none of our MFDs can log on to the server. Requests are timing out.

 

pCounter Embedded is provided by KOnica Minolta. pCounter is the standard software (v2.87)

 

Has anyone seen this issue and can advise? Server is 2012r2

 

Trying to find support from Konica - but they are not the best.

Checked any firewalls on the server?

Can you login to embedded management web page? Do you get any message on the MFD or not? Are they listed on the webpage?

 

Glad its not just me that has issues with this software especially around windows updates!

Check the correct server IP is set in the embedded and it hasn't lost that setting and then make sure its pushed out to the printers from the server, it needs to have the server IP in there for the embedded software to see the server, if not it will time out for people trying to log into the embedded, but it will still be able to direct print.

Worked it out in the end. Was simple.

What was it? Were they not licensed?

 

One thing I would do is take a copy of the daccs folder minus the runtime and logs folders as when PCounter bombs out you can restore this bit easy.

I'm actually too embarrassed to say. Despite having seen this issue before and linking it to a Windows Update - this time it was a lot simpler. Someone had unplugged the main switch in that room - cutting off those printers from the server.

 

Wasnt' me I should add - but I should have checked a bit more before looking for a complex problem.

Sorry to bring this thread back up but you guys are obviously some sort of Wizards.

 

Had our new PCounter install today (trying to retire out last 2008r2 server) and Konica are saying 2012r2 isn't supported.

 

Try to connect to a printer and it comes up with this

 

 

However the same machine can Ping/Web Access/ Print to these machines.

 

Our 2008R2 box connects to them fine.

 

Wiped the server and used an old 2012r2 ISO (to rule out any recent updates) and it still isn't happy.

Cannot commend for Konica but PCounter does work on 2012r2 although some MFD devices only support SMB1 which 2012R2 doesn't support. Not sure how they connect I know Sharp & Toshiba use a web link, double check your firewall isn't active as that has caught me out before.

I know it doesn't help but our pCounter Embedded software is running fine on 2012r2 and we added a printer in yesterday (a KM MFD as well).

 

I've seen this error - have you tried adding a device and not importing a device?

Hi Gareth, Yeah, either adding the device or importing gives the same response. If I run the same KM-Embedded app on a Windows 2008 box it works. Ive asked Konica to get a me definitive answer, because they are saying its a Windows Update that has broke it, but I installed a Vanilla 2012 R2 box (using a 18month old ISO) and that didn't work. If I just add the printer as a direct printer in PCoutner it works (on 2012) it just means I cant deploy embedded to the devices - which defeats the object. frustrating to say the least.
