Projecting image problems

I have a problem projecting video clips onto a whiteboard (although it could be any surface).

I have a Fujitsu laptop (fairly new but have tried with other laptops too) and a Sanyo projector (also fairly new).

I can get the dual image working and show anything apart from video clips on both.

I have tried Windows Media player, Powerdvd, VLC, Real player, Quicktime, DivX etc. All produce the window on both screens but only the laptop shows the film. If I switch the image over to projector only then the film shows but as soon as you switch back to both it disappears from the window. I have updated codecs galore but to no avail.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

I have had a similar problem to this which I fixed in Windows Media Player by changing a setting in Options. You have to open Media Player: try the Tools menu, then Options and then Performance. I was told to untick or tick the box next to Use Video Overlays (it may be in an Advanced part of the section), and check that Hardware Acceleration is set to the highest. Sorry it's a bit vague, but I'm at home and Media Player versions are different in their menu sections. It did fix it. Can't remember if I had to close everything and open it all again to pick up the changes.

I say video driver - make sure it's up to date. We have Clevo's that do this...

I have this all the time. The graphics card in your laptop is not powerful and will not render a video on to displays. Change the display option to just the projector and I will guess this will solve the problem.

I have just had the same problem on older laptops, using Espresso - not playing video through projector unless laptop display turned off with Fn key toggle.

 

Espresso uses Windows Media Player. Turning off video overlays didn't help, but have now found that also needed to update the version of Media Player on laptop to 10. Then the trick with unticking video overlays works as I suggested before.

I have had this problem for a while but finally i have cracked it. It was a matter of playing with the graphics driver settings, particulary hardware acceleration. This can be found if you go properties on the desktop, settings, advanced and troubleshoot. By default hardware acceleration is set to maximum. If you reduce the slide bar until the video will project on both the laptop and screen it will work for you. You would think that if the graphics driver was working at its best that it could handle what you ask, it seems not. Since doing this i have had no problems. If anyone is aware of any reason why doing this can affect performance then let me know.

I have found a script to set this automatically if needed.

Its just a VB script.
