Strange keyboard issue

Hi all

 

Weird keyboard issue.

 

Basically everytime the computer is turned on the keyboard needs to be unplugged then plugged back in to the pc before it will be picked up. This is more a windows issue though as before booting i can get into the BIOS fine.

 

Any Suggestions?

id guess usb is being disabled at some point in bootup sequence. does the machine have a mix of usb 3 and 2 ports if so try it in a usb2 port

They're all usb2s

 

Can't see any options in bios for it either, mind.

Check the USB 2-3 thing mentioned above, but also check check for the digital signature on kbdclass.sys and kbdhid.sys in C:\windows\system32\drivers

 

it's possible for them to become corrupted during a dirty shutdown and for them to only be retrieved from sxs when the device is reinserted.

While the keyboard is not working, go to C:\windows\system32\drivers, right click kbdclass.sys and kbdhid.sys, you should be able to see a certificate tab. If the information on the tab is garbage, or the tab isn't there the driver is corrupt. You can probably prove it by deleting them from there and copying in a set from another machine, checking the certificate is still good and hitting rescan in device manager. If it reinstalls the keyboard there and then without having to reinsert, thats your problem right there!

-removing/re-scan the keyboard from the device manager?

-Update the driver from the device manager?

There's no digital signatures tab on the kbdhid one, but then again there isn't on the machine i'm on and that works fine...odd.

Sorry, my bad, it isn't listed on kbdhid, but if you go to the driver properties of the device in device manager the certificate icon should be next to both kbdhid and kbdclass, again, if there isn't that icon, something is awry and windows doesn't like to install unsigned drivers!
