techie08 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Hi I have a user that has just got married and i therefore need to change their login name in AD. If i just change the users login name in AD, will it sync the change correctly to Office 365 or will it create a brand new user? If it creates a new user, what do i have to do to the existing user to match it up with the AD account? Many Thanks

Boredguy Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Once you have changed the users details on the local network and it has synchronized with 365 do the following Login to 365 via powershell Set-MsolUserPrincipalName -UserPrincipalName [email protected] -NewUserPrincipalName [email protected] User can then login with their married name

This isn't happening in this case.
Boredguy Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 We've had to change it when renaming users who have gotten married otherwise 365 still expects them to login with their maiden name even though everything else has updated to their married name. Even though the UPN suffix is the same (although I admit the MS example above also changed the suffix as well as the initial username) you do sometimes need to perform this step. Maybe Azure AD sync does it now, but the previous version of DirSync never updated the logon name.
