Mapping a users home directory to a standalone mac

OK so the headteacher has got a Macbook.

They are not very computer literate so I set it up so that they just log on as a local user.

In school I have set it up so that they can access the shared areas ( just spaces on a NAS box) however they want to get to there personal home folder to.

 

So on a windows domain PC this happens when they log in it map the home directory to a h drive with only that person been able to have access to that folder. Is there a way of doing this on a mac?

You can do this via the login options seeing as you have a local account

System preferences | users & groups. Select the local user account and then select login items, then add the mapped drive

The basic brute force fudgey way:

 

Finder > Go > Connect to Server > whack in smb:// or cifs:// format address to the share. Click OK. Enter credentials when prompted.

Finder > Go > Computer - you should now see their home folder mount listed in there.

Apple > System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items.

 

Drag n' drop their folder from Finder > Go > Computer's window into the list in Users & Groups.
