Hello All,

 

I am wanting to document all of the connections to the network so with out looking at the switch i know

• What is plugged in to what port
  
• what vlans are tagged on that switch port
  
• which patch point goes to which switch port
  
• what is on the other end of the cable (pc/phone/AP/printer etc)
  

 

All the patch leads are going to be colour coded and the main cables (fibers, trunks and infrastructure will all be labeled)

 

how do others do this?

I use a bit of software called Racktables. It's opensource and runs on LAMP.
