Alternatives to..

We use the above for our customer database, contact numbers, jobs coming in etc.

 

it works.

 

But we are always faced with the possibility that one day we are going to out grow it and it would be nice if we could host a similar thing ourselves on our own servers.

 

Does anyone know of preferable an open-source similar product ?

Im also looking for the front end development style too.... SO I can create a web portal to meet our needs - I can add client details into it keep track of jobs etc and let other users access the front end.

Why don't you just go for a CRM? Obvious elephant in the room being Salesforce? You can develop on Salesforce and tailor it to your needs too.
