Right guys - We ordered the Dazzle hardware, and converted an hour and a half length of footage right through - Perfect quality, and audio/video sync is perfect too.

Doesn't hog my computer (as has its own processor). Seems perfect!

easy/cheap way is using a home vhs recorder and home dvd recorder (as in the type u use on ure tele) copy the vid then rip it on ure comp.

or a video capture card (but not dazzle)

the easiest way is vhs to dvd. they sell these at bestbuy, circuit city. but the problem with dvds is that they get scratched very easily. last year i copied a few vhs to dvd and now i cant watch half of them because the scratches. dvd also takes up a lot of space. in avi format, you can fit about 6 movies in 1 dvd, but with dvd, all you can do is one. to archive stuff, its much better to use avi, but i dont any software for it. if you end up converting vhs to dvd and then back to avi, i suspect you will lose a lot of the quality that you might not if you did direct vhs to avi.

Maybe at a crap resolution and low frame & bit rate.....

320x240 & you get what you put in or 640x480 if you are picky because of the interlacing...
