Does the device have to support shared iPad in order to take advantage of the classroom app? I have been using 16GB devices for years as they suit our needs. Hopefully I get the answer im looking for but im guessing not .

You can setup classes and use the classroom app on 16gb devices. You just can't take advantage of the new shared ipad deployment they've introduced. https://help.apple.com/classroom/ipad/1.0/#/cadc1b9b4f8a

I've been playing with it this morning. It works surprisingly well. The classes just need to be setup in your MDM and the classroom app needs to be on the teacher ipad. Has some very nice features for controlling the classroom!

For those of you who either don't have an MDM that supports this or (yet) or are still banging away moaning about AC2 on here show your ICT coordinator or senior leader this video, they may find some budget for you for an MDM to manage them

No support for Classroom in Meraki just yet but I have taken a look on the Meraki blog and its coming at some point. Just gonna have to be patient.

Using (VMWare)AirWatch. Hide app feature is available in the suite but have just received notification Apple have revoked the hide "Settings" icon. Has this happen for "Casper" users?

 

Can someone kindly put a video together demonstrating the hide app feature.

I don't think you could ever hide the Settings app?

Byod wouldn't work because the student ipads need to be supervised a long with an educational configuration profile pushed out to them.

Apple Classroom will not work unless they have the edu profile pushed to them via an mdm. Student ipads also need to be supervised.

You can push an MDM profile for classroom without the need for the device to be supervised, IRC.

Whilst teachers iPad does not need to be supervised any students iPads require supervision for the teacher to be able to manage them...
