Processor fans running at full speed from boot up

Hi all, have about 7 machines affected now which i believe started from some power issues we had in our building, from switching the pc on the processor fans run at full speed continuously. Machines seem fine apart from this performance wise, just noisy. I checked in the bios under the realtime hardware monitoring and all of the cpu temps and voltages etc have N/A by them whereas on the same working machines these are all populated. I tried upgrading to the latest bios which made no difference. Are there sensors on the motherboard which can be reset or does anyone have any other suggestions? The boards are Intel DQ57TM.

Thank you.

I had this when we upgraded some machines to windows 8.1. it turned out the motherboard didn't support Windows 8. What operating system are you using?

You could try swapping the power supply from a known working PC to rule out power issues. The motherboard senses the temperature in the PCH and also near the voltage regulators for the CPU. The CPU might also have a sensor in too depending which one it is.

You said you tried upgrading the BIOS. Have you tried resetting to default values? Sounds as if there may be a physical fault, then again to have the same thing happen on seven machines would be rather strange.

Power supplies don't like power surges and even if they don't die, damage can be done that changes the ripple as well as the voltage output. The first gen 1 series processors are fairly delicate as it the PCH when it comes to voltages. Swapping the CPU from a N/A motherboard to a working one would rule out the CPU.

Agree with difinity - try taking a PSU & CPU from a "working" machine and swap them (one at a time) to see if that solves it. New PSUs might be worth the outlay, new CPUs probably not, and if you test it and there's still a fault it's likely to be a motherboard failure...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I will give these a try next week during the holidays. The whole site is jinxed with power issues, any time we have a power cut we are losing power supplies so hopefully it will be that and a relatively cheap fix.
