Before I start this rant, I just want to make clear that not only do like Three for it's coverage, rates and international roaming, but it's customer service is quite good.

Unless they make a teeny tiny error like this weekend. I got a new phone which needed a nano-sim unlike the micro-sim my OnePlus One took so off I rushed to the 3 store in Preston to grab a new one.

5 Mins after getting in the shop I left with a new sim tied to my account.

Now, for those of you that don't know (and there can't be many now surely!), it can take up to 24 hours for your number to transfer from one sim card to another so when it came to Sunday afternoon and I still couldn't dial the new handset I rang Three customer support.

Aft 15 mins or so they insisted that my new sim had been allocated my new number and even rang it to prove it. Satisfied I closed the call.

Now, this morning, I still couldn't ring the handset so rang the support line again and finally got the full picture.

They had given my handset my daughters number which, whilst listed as belonging to me was not registered under my main account. To make matters worse they can't simply reallocate the numbers back and have had to dispatch two new sims for the phones which themselves will probably take 24 hours to register again once fitted.

It shouldn't be this hard surely?

I just hope the trains are running ok today!

I had massive issues with them myself a while back relating to a mobile internet account for my MiFi, I switched from PaYG to the 1 month contract they offer as the data amount was much better, it got a bit farcical in the end as I ended up with 4 SIMS all supposed to work for my MiFi device, which didn't.

It takes a while from what I experienced for anything with them that took near enough a week and two visits to a three shop in the locality.

Switched daughter over to Three recently and it went like a dream. Very quick and no problems.

I guess people's experiences vary. You only tend to hear about things going wrong

Surely they must have to verify the number first... so you would think... what a pain. :S

A year or so a go my mother had an issue with Virgin getting a nano sim instead of a micro for her phone. Everything went fine on the phone... except they didn't ship it next day delievery like they said they would... it went via Royal Snail Mail. At least they did give her a discount for not being able to use her phone for a few days.

At least your daughter isn't old enough to be getting texts from boyfriends. That really would ruin your day ;)

Surely it would ruin the boyfriends day......

I brought a Normal to micro and a micro to nano sim cutter pack on ebay for £5 now I just cut them as and when needed for people and it saves the hassle of dealing with the phone networks.

I use scissors to cut my Sim Cards. Did my girlfriends too. It's really quite easy and saves the hassle! :)

Sometimes I feel like doing that too... but across the sim. ;)

Got a darn cold robo-call a few minutes ago... before anyone asks, no it was not K9. :p

@Dos_Box There's a thing on Radio 4's You and Yours about Vodafone transferring numbers to the wrong SIM just now. It's a problem as criminals are doing this to get control of text notifications for resetting passwords with significant financial loss for some people as the end result.

Could be worse.

I was on the Three £15 pay each month plan with unlimited data and god knows what else (I hardly touch the minutes or texts).

Then it went up to £20, fair enough still a reasonable deal...

Just got a text through stating now they're gonna be sticking a 12GB cap on and unlimited data will now cost £25 a month.

Goodbye Three, I'm out.

That's odd, end of last month I kept on asking for my PAC number as they were hiking the bill up, they really did not want me to leave. In the end they offered me 200 mins, ayce (All You Can Eat) text and data (although tethering was a max of 12GB a month now) for £15 a month on one month rolling.

i suspect the loss of unlimited data will loose them a fair amount of custom its the rason i picked them. Having said that i moved to 20gb with bt and now i have usage reports (2 just said you have unlimited never said what id used) i use so little when thats up i could probably get away with 1gb cap (15 days left this month and got 19.71gb left of 20gb)

That is sort of the point, at £20 a month I *just* stayed with them. Now they've announced yet another price hike I might as well actually see what I use on average and potentially half my bill in the process!

Interestingly when my wife changed phones and needed a nano sim rather than a micro sim we walked into a three shop and they simply cut her existing sim down to size using one of those punch thingies!

Their customer service has been attrocious. It doesn't help that most of them are script junkies. I was a recipient on one of their infamous letters last week saying that they'll be kicking me off The One Plan and giving me the wonderful loyalty benefit of £3/Month discount for Unlimited Mins/Texts and Data. In the end, I called up and finally got them down to Unlimited Mins/Texts and 8GB Data for £13/Month. It's not ideal, but it'll do and way cheaper than anything anyone else could offer me. I really didn't want to have to keep an eye on what data I am using, but seeing as unlimited data is too expensive, I guess I'll have to keep on top of the usage. I just wish the other networks start offering unlimited data again soon to make them more attractive an option. For now, I guess it's better to stay with 3 and enjoy the use of my Home Signal Box (femtocell) in my office which allows me to get full coverage.

Yeah, I've noticed them do this in the past too.
