Exchange 2013 - Block email sending to email contacts

Can we block sending email to contacts which are created in Exchange 2013? I know we can moderate groups but can something similar be done with email contacts?

What's the problem you're trying to solve?

 

No, you can't stop people sending mail to their contacts - but you could use Transport rules to restrict which domains they can send to.

As far as I'm aware no, other than using Transport Rules as stated above.

 

The only immediate idea I can think of is to limit/restrict what email addresses/domains users can mail to, but this probably isn't appropriate in most scenarios.

We are creating email contacts and distribution groups for Governors and would like to block sending email from staff to those contacts / groups ( it is possible with groups ). What would be the best way to achieve this?

Yes you can do this. When creating the Group (top of my head), you can specify that only members of the Distribution Group can e-mail the Group. I have this implemented on Staff Distribution Groups, so Pupils cannot e-mail all Staff, but Pupils can still e-mail Staff individually - this is especially important in terms of child protection and confidentiality for example. Pupils should be able to contact their Teacher directly.

Transport rules should help in terms of the contacts, too.

 

You should be able to setup a distribution group with all the contacts in it and set up a transport rule that says something like:

 

If recipient is in *dist group* then reject message... except if sender is in *allowed dist group*

 

Something like that - don't have access to an Exchange box at present, but that would be the general gist of it!
