garethEds Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) Morning all, Just want to check out some stuff this morning. Hopefully someone can help. I've started supporting the LEA Wordpress MU installation. We have around 15 sites running on an older version of Wordpress. It is currently 4.2.4 but not the latest (4.4.2). The Dashboard is telling me to upgrade but I don't want to do it in case it messes everyone else's site up. I also wonder whether I need to do it as everything seems to be working fine. Anyhow can I press update but only have it apply to my website? I'm happy for my site to be the test site. Then once I am happy it works without issue on my site - upgrade all the othe sites one at a time to the newest version. Cheers Gareth Edited March 15, 2016 by garethedmondson Added information
matt40k Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Far as I am aware, you'll need to create a clone of the server or such. WordPress MU is a single copy of the core (both database and files) so its very much all or nothing. Bit disappointing they didnt setup a dev/uat/prod environment

We run the Enfold theme but it was installed as a one fit alls. I've managed to get our child theme installed but need to experiment with moving the 10 sites over to it. It's coming - but slow. 3s-gtech Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I've found that upgrades with 4.* haven't caused any issues with compatibility, but it has been during this version that PHP 5.2 support has dwindled in plugins and they'll break. If your install happens to still use this ancient version, try to upgrade this first.
