Windows LLDP

Would any of you lovely peeps know of a free way/piece of software that would allow windows to report it's hostname to my switches via lldp?

My initial googling only found the one piece which at €99 per 10 machines is a bit pricey for us.

 

I had hoped MS might have built it into windows by now but it doesn't appear so

 

There are a few ways around it but I thought it would be nice to be able to see at a glance what was plugged in where (like I can with phones, switches, wifi points)

LLDP is in Windows 10, 2012 and 8, but it's not terribly useful from a "what computer is connected to port E1" perspective. See

for an example.

 

LDWin (https://github.com/chall32/LDWin) will tell a client PC the switchport it's plugged into.

I would be cautious about having LLDP enabled on ports that are accessible via a user. They can attack the switch and use up all its resources by sending it a ton of junk LLDP packets.
