Hi folks

I'm aware that in Discover one can create a discover group - and when a pupil enters or leaves that group - the owner(s) of that group can be emailed.

This is particularly useful for pupils who are in a % attendance group for example.

However, I'm looking to get more - and I wonder if anyone knows of a way to do this...

We would like an alert sent to a custom staff member(s) when a pupil gets x numeber of y behaviour incidents in a term.

Eg, Mr Smith gets an email when Barry has had 2 "Homework" behaviour incidents issued to him, this term.

Ambitious, I know - but wondered if Discover could do it?

Cheers all,

T

The simple answer is yes.

What you need to do is make sure you can create the group of data that you want in Discover. If you can do that then you set it up as a dynamic group and set in Sims itself who you want to get the alerts.

We have a number of Primary schools using behaviour and Discover in this way eg: alert a Deputy Head and/or Learning Mentor when someone reaches 3 red cards.

The widgets on the home page are also very good for certain alerts around behaviour.

Indeed - so is it possible in Discover to create a group that houses pupils with X amount of X Behaviour types (per term)?

I just had a go at this in Discover, and with a bit of finessing, then yes.

Open the behaviour section and you should see "students in behaviour point ranges" and "Behaviour points by half term".

Overlay the threshold group from one with the term from the other.

This will give you a venn diagram where the overlap is the kids you are interested in.

drag these into your custom group.

now the finessing.... you'll have to open discover administration tool and edit the graph setting to define the points intervals.

You'll also need a different group created for each half term (or manually update the group each half term).

Thanks for that @bobsmith, - but the half termly series doesn't filter by that half term specifically when adding to the points; bringing in as it does, pupils with points accumulated from previous terms :/

Try it - find a kid who has only got, say, 3 points in one half term, and see if you can isolate them in a group...?!

ah, i can filter it to "did they get ANY points in that half term" for students whose total points are within a given range, but not accruing that many points in any given term.

So I've exhausted the possibilities.
