Screen mirroring mobile devices

Hi all, does anyone have any advice regarding mirroring mobile devices to our classroom projectors? We've been focussing on software solutions allowing us to connect them to the PCs as we want to be able to control what devices can connect, but have found the performance to be quite poor.

 

We're now considering WiDi dongles or similar, any tips or experiences you can share would be great - have you got either solution working, what devices are you using etc?

The main piece of advice I'd give is - make sure your wifi solution is up to it. We use software based mirroring here (AirServer), and have had no performance issues at all.

Thanks, we upgraded our WiFi network over the summer in preparation for this and providing devices to students. What devices are you using? iPads or something else?

We broadcast from iPads to Windows PCs.

We put Apple TVs onto the projectors. Windows laptops get a copy of AirParrot (under £10, depends on the dollar) to connect to them. Most staff with tablets have iDevices.

 

We initially started doing it because to science labs having no elegant way to run replacement AV cabling to the teacher benches at the front.

We tried AirParrot and Reflector to mirror a tablet to a PC which was plugged into a projector, but found the image had quite a severe delay, and audio and video didn't sync when playing a video. Did you come across any of those issues when using Apple TVs?

^ Nope. I'm running them on a wired network connection though (we specify running 2* network drops to new projectors), so that will make a difference.

 

 

*one for an Apple TV/whatever, one for the increasing amount of projectors with network ports.
