2012 R2 DC Losing UNC Connection but still Pings

Hi

I have a 2012 R2 server which is the main Domain Controller for the network holding the FSMO roles.

I have a login script that tracks user logins by updating text files for the machine/user so can cross match logins and PCs used.

 

Sometimes, when I load the shortcut to browse the unc path \\servername\logon_logs I get a message saying that the path is inaccessible, however the server is still reachable by ping.

 

It only happens occasionally and only noticed whenever I have to access the logs and find that the path is inaccessible.

 

If I try accessing the UNC path a few times, it does eventually go through, and another time when I want to access , the UNC path is accessible instantly so isn't inaccessible all the time.

 

It's driving me a bit mad as to why this would be happening as the server is not dropping off the network or dropping packets according to monitoring software, so seems to be an internal Issue with the server software?

 

If anyone has any ideas or seen this before, any help would be much appreciated. I'm unable to find any monitoring software to monitor the UNC path so I can see when/how often it is inaccessible other than when I try to access the server.

 

I have several other servers of same model and same version support pack installed (as are all HP ML350 Gen servers) that have constant UNC path and none of them have this issue.

 

Unable to find anything in the event logs either.

Give a look under Active Directory Sites and Services. Make sure you have all of your subnets defined and that you don't have any old domain controllers in there.
