Updating Edugeek Joomla

I see that Joomla 1.5 is now reported stable. How do I update my Edugeek Joomla package please? Version of Joomla currently being used is 1.0.12

No special reason other than presumably the new version is "better" in some way. So I guess the answer is because it's there.

You might be forgetting that the new version may also contain a number of security fixes and bug resolutions so there may well be good reason to "fix it"

 

From what ZeroHour has said of Joomla recently it seems the upgrade path is relatively simple but the key word here is "relatively". As with all things you'd definitely want to back everything up (database especially) and then perhaps it'd be worth creating a clone site (and database) on a completely seperate subdomain (test.foodomain.org.uk) and then try doing an upgrade of that and see how you go.

 

If nothing else it'd avoid the stress of "it's trashed my site"

It is relatively simple to transfer the back-end, yes, but templates are more complex and so are additional modules/components. They do not transfer automatically, and will mean you needing to re-implement the template (which is kinda the whole point of using the edugeek joomla package).

Er now I'm confused - easily done to a novice like me. Should I upgrade or not? My site is still in the testing stage, so is not live, and is installed on my own local server.

No, you shouldn't upgrade. The migration is simple to transfer things like site data (ie, your content), but not simple if you have any extra components (which, as far as I know, the edugeek joomla package does). Also, the templates do not transfer - you would have to do this too.
