L_Smith Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I am a massive Song of Ice and Fire fan and I have read the books 5 times now in total. I decided that I would watch the TV series if it was out before the next book (which it will be) mainly down to the fact that there are bound to be spoilers floating round and due to the size of the show I don't think I would be able to avoid them. I ALSO decided that I would read no articles or watch no trailers but this is getting harder and harder to stick to. Should I watch the trailer or should I stick to my guns and keep away from it all?
rich_tech Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I will watch the show, despite having read all the books, it doesnt appear like GRRM is going to get them out any time soon with the procrastinating ;D, I think their both going slightly different directions now anyway to each other from my understanding so not reliably going to be the same conclusions I think.
LeMarchand Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 The last trailer (released a week or so ago) was more atmosphere and spoiler free (I think). I think the 2 versions (show/TV) will reach the same approximate ending, but will probably take different paths to get there.
L_Smith Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 GRRM has always said that when two people tell the same story, they might tell it slightly different but come to the same ending. For me it is just two interpretations of the same story.
sonofsanta Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Point the first: definitely no book 6 this year. Point the second: book & show are definitely diverging. People are dead in one and not in t'other, and vice versa. And some characters are missing outright--not seen anything of Young Griff in the show yet, which may be a clue as to his legitimacy in the books... So I don't think either will necessarily spoil the other outright. There will still be shocks in each. Facebook will spoil both, though, so I'mma quittin' it while the show's on!
