WDS: NUC usb3 only ports

Hi All

 

Not had this before, having issues building a new Intel NUC onto WDS as when it gets to the build image selection screen I cannot choose anything as the keyboard (which connected via usb) does not work.

 

From what I have read WDS doesnt play so nice with USB3, has anyone had this or worked out a workaround. I have tried injecting the drivers into the boot.wim which seem to complete ok but I get the same problem when I boot it.

You can run it over WDS and it has features built in to support UEFI/USB3.0 and suchlike

This does my head in too, a lot of laptops are coming with the touchpads on USB3 making.

 

Two choices, try and inject more USB3 drivers into the Boot.wim of your choice.

or

Create an unattend.xml so the Boot.wim will pick the language, login to WDS, select your install image, partition and format the drive and then finally install.

Replace all the %things% with your own stuff, the unattend has ShowUI on Error so if there is a problem it will run like a normal setup at the point of error.

 

Save this as an XML and add it in to unattended installation on your server properties in WDS.

 

This is to be used with an x86 Boot.wim (a x86 boot wim can see both x86 and x64 install wims)

I don't work with WDS much as generally use MDT but can you import a different boot image into WDS?

 

You want one based on WinPE 5 as that natively supports USB3
