LTSB will probably get something like service packs, but called something else other than the traditional meaning. For example they may call it an "Update rollup" which is a term I've seen used in the past.

 

This mass-update will still encompass hundreds of KB's installed all at once to bring a new LTSB install up-to-date very rapidly.

No, it's more likely MS will just release a new build that you'll need to upgrade over the top of your current build (Or in our case, I'll just remake the image & slowly roll that out, if the featureset is big enough to warrant it)

Upgrades guys!! There are upgrades and updates. Upgrades are the builds and updates are the security updates. Apparently both SCCM and WSUS can deploy upgrades as well as updates. What the technet videos on petri from last nights #technetvc.

Just to be clear Windows dont dish out service packs anymore. These are now known as upgrades and watching the technet conference last night, one of the MVPs tweeted back to me about the CBB upgrades with this link https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt598226(v=vs.85).aspx.

And just to clarify, I control all Upgrades and Updates via WSUS - putting you in full control whether or not you use LTSB.

 

Even when the time comes that 10240 is unsupported, workstations wont suddenly be Upgraded as the WSUS server overrides this - This applies to Pro, Education and Enterprise.

 

The latest Upgrade would be applied if there's no WSUS or SCCM control mechanism as Upgrades would be received directly from Microsoft Update.

 

Home edition for example will automatically receive Updates and Upgrades, there's no method to switch it off or control it.

Pretty much - would be interesting when the time comes and Microsoft do release a duff update. In saying that the only option to Home users is to disable the Windows Update service.

We're hoping to still use our mandatory profile for all staff and pupils like we do now. We're limited and storage so don't want any persistent changes back across the network, just log off and it all disappears! We have never had any issues with it after 10 years of doing it through v1, v2, v3, v4 and hopefully v5 in Win10

 

Also just to add, our office, none teaching staff (those staff that are based in one location and on a specific PC) use the default user profile not a network mandatory profile, just so they can customise how they wish.
