DalekSec Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 The unifi pro APs have a secondary Ethernet output which we have used before to hang ip phones off (the ip phone does have to be locally powered as the PoE isn't strong enough) But does anyone knows if we could tether a normal UniFi AP off of a pro? (We don't mind locally powering the normal AP). Unsure on how the normal one would hold up, anyone doing this/ done this before?
NB9457 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I can't see any reason why not, but I'd always recommend running independent data points for APs, then you can utilise all the bandwith and what not. Where you be putting an AP if you were going to daisy chain?
Chris_ Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 No reason why you can't connect another AP to the secondary port. On the UEWA course we all connected the UAP Pro's together linking out of each ones secondary port for one exercise where they all needed to be on the same controller. 1
DalekSec Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 It's an area of the school where the wifi is terrible (old building thick walls) so we are changing the normal AP for a Pro to see if that helps, and as an after thought we thought why not stick the normal one off of the pro. Trouble is, is that when that area got cabled up the company said there is no way we can get any more cables via that route, and no easy alternative at the moment!
NB9457 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 In that case fair enough! They should chain fine, obviously just document any chaining for the next poor soul. Amount of schools I go to and you find mini switch and ancient hubs stuffed behind cabinets, drawers, even in the caretakers office and sometimes you have a chain of 2/3, so I then spend all day tracing things! haha 1
