[sims] Daily Tracking

I know this might sound a little OTT - and I have already got thoughts about how to avoid this - but the PE dept record things like equipment, no kit, incorrect kit, etc on a daily basis and were asking if it could be done in SIMS.

 

They then analyse the data by term (I believe) and obviously make decisions on the data.

 

I wondered if anyone else did this or if people had suggestions of how this might be done in assessment.

 

It seems ridiculous to have an aspect/result set for each school day...

I heard once that you could create lesson attendance codes for things like this and then just map them to the present mark.

 

So a K might be "no kit" but would appear in statistics like a "/".

 

Not experimented yet so can't confirm it works.

I've considered this - eg a Q for equipment... if these be exported easily to excel it shouldn't be too bad.

 

However I'm not sure if they may require 2 per lesson - I'll look into that! Cheers

Not quite the same as what you're asked to do, but for KS3 I was asked to set up marksheets so that the PE staff can record what activities they've been doing, eg Term 1 football, Term 2 basketball, Term 3 athletics. In case they need to explain a dip in grades as some kids might be good at one sport but not so good at another...

Easy answer to the 2 per lesson, just another code for "both"?

This is what the behaviour system is designed to record - it's completely open and one click away from the register with bulk selection. It's not a great idea to combine two data items into a single field as it makes analysis so much harder.

The main issue with assessment manager is that any results are stored against the student record. It would be nice to store them against the 'school' or a Dept within the school. The same goes for behaviour. Requests like this would become alot easier then.

@Banjo as a student is a member of groups SIMS can sum against any of these variables. If you mean that some achievements are awarded to a house for example that is an enhancement we're looking at.

@PhilNeal: It's not the same. If Assessment Manager treated the 'school' and maybe even 'national' in a similar manner to students it would make life so much easier. Schools would be able to enter data into aspects such as overall attendance for the schools and national outcomes and link so they could be reported on.

 

Headline performance measures such as 5+ A*-C EM (old money) or Progress/AT8 could be entered at school level and national into apsects that would then feed into discover.

 

These values could be displayed on the first/last two rows of any marksheets with a tick box on/off option either in the marksheet or at template level.

 

This turns AM from just a student level tracking tool into a school level tracking system that would allow for comparisons to national.
