We have a use case where we would like to broadcast a lesson being taught and the possibility of recording it - we used to use Iris but it's far to expensive.

Has anyone come across cheaper means that work well?

EDIT: We are on O365 and so have Skype for Business accounts.

Hi Nathan.

Seeing as you've got Skype for Business you could set up a webcam and microphone and run a Skype session to another computer? This would solve your broadcasting question.

For recording the session I would personally recommend http://screencast-o-matic.com/ for recording the screen and system sound, costs either $15 for a year or $29 for 3 years which is what I went for, one of the cheapest and best screen and sound recorders I've ever used.

I believe skype for business can actually record your broadcasts, you can also broadcast a stream to a web page, negating the need for everyone to have/use skype for business.

Unfortunately for me the broadcasting isn't included with our O365 license.

So I would have to do a meeting with Skype for Business and you would have to invite everyone who wanted to watch it.

I've been looking into live broadcasting a school news program.... it's a right ol' pain!!

tell me about it. We have an annual awards show and we livestream to parents. Best thing i've found so far it Open Broadcaster streaming the video to YouTube Live. Works well and allows the viewer to rewind etc.

We sometimes use Google hangouts to project video (usually from phones, tablets, chromebooks) onto projector screens.

You can add multiple clients (classrooms) but I think need addons to record.

Google Hangouts On Air (not just "Google Hangouts", that's a slightly different product) will record the screen and the camera, and save it for downloading or editing later. Further PCs with cameras can be integrated into the same Hangout too.

WebEX! Webex not only shares content out as though google hangouts and skype business would but has a local record function. Its a Cisco product so prepare to at least spend a little on hosting accounts
