timbo343 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Just had this from a supplier: MS Surface Safety Notice AC Power Cords for the Microsoft Surface Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro 2 and certain Microsoft Surface Pro 3s As of 22 January 2016, at 6:00am Pacific Standard Time (US West Coast time), in cooperation with various government regulatory agencies, Microsoft has initiated a voluntary recall for AC power cords (the cord that plugs into an electrical outlet) supplied with the Microsoft Surface Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro 2, and with any Microsoft Surface Pro 3 purchased prior to 15 July 2015 (“pre-15 July 2015 Surface Pro 3s”). If these AC cords are sharply and repeatedly bent or wrapped tightly over an extended period of time, they may become damaged. Damaged AC power cords can overheat, posing a potential fire or shock hazard. Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2, and pre-15 July 2015, Surface Pro 3 customers will receive a replacement AC power cord at no cost. Please visit this website for more details: http://www.surface.com/powercord What to do: 1. Stop using your AC power cord (the cord that you plug into an electrical outlet) if you have a Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2, or a pre-15 July 2015 Surface Pro 3. 2. Visit the Microsoft Surface Pro AC Power Cord Recall website at http://www.surface.com/powercord to request a free replacement AC power cord. 3. Review the cord care instructions on the Surface support page at Power Cord Care (Clean and care for Surface | Clean touchscreen | Clean keyboard). gh5000 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Cheers for this. I think three different family members have surfaces. I don't know if this is just because it hasn't officially been announced but the http://www.surface.com/powercord webpage doesn't exist
X-13 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Well... the powercord recall website is 404ing here. Which is annoying as we've got a Surface Pro here.
Kingstech Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Well... the powercord recall website is 404ing here. Which is annoying as we've got a Surface Pro here. I have a Surface Pro 3 but the power cord stays in the office and i use a different one that i keep in my bag when i am out and about.
gh5000 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Indeed. I made a guess that it hadn't been officially announced but I should have just read it carefully!
X-13 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 The date is in the future! Website should still be live though.
JRowley Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Website should still be live though. The supplier appears to have received and sent on an internal notice by the looks of things, it probably wont be made public or official until that date and time.
Edu-IT Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 The supplier appears to have received and sent on an internal notice by the looks of things, it probably wont be made public or official until that date and time. It's already on various news outlets.
JRowley Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 It's already on various news outlets. I'm sure it is, that doesn't mean Microsoft decided to make it official or public however, the wording off it shows that it's not intended to be public yet in my view.
