Hyper-v issue

I had to shut down one of my 2012 R2 hosts today. When it came back up, none of the servers it is hosting have network connectivity. The host has six Ethernet ports which are all in one teamed. I have looked at device manager on the host and the "Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter #2" and the "Hyper-V Virtual Switch Extension Adapter" both have exclamation marks against them. If I go in to properties, both say "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code31)". The "Virtual Ethernet" then says "{Operation failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful." and the Virtual switch says "An object ID was not found in the file."

 

I have tried rebooting, disabling all the cards and re-enabling them, and removing the team and re-creating it. No difference. I've had a Google and will continue to do so, but if anyone has an answer that would be great.

What Nic's are they? I had a similar problem with Broadcom!

@strawberry - No joy. If I try and remove the existing one it just says "Error applying Virtual Switch Properties changes. Failed while removing virtual Ethernet switch." and if I try and add a new one it says "Error applying Virtual Switch Properties changes. Failed while adding virtual Ethernet switch connections."

 

All the VMs are powered off.

I had to update the drivers for mine manually as Broadcom had sold the rights of that particular Nic to Q-logic, Intel Nic's are usually sound but the Realtek could be a problem, its worth checking them out with the latest drivers manually,

But the NICs themselves aren't complaining, and all work individually. It's just the virtual ones which are upset. At the moment, I've removed the team and then it let me create a new switch with an individual NIC in it which all the hosted servers are using. Fortunately most of them aren't very important and don't use a lot of traffic, the other one however is the SIMS server......

we had similar issue. we had 2 x LOM then a 4 port HP HBA card. we have them teaming separately using the HBA as the network and the LOM as the Heartbeat

 

Does the network come back temporarily if you reboot the Host.

Maybe try this as we experienced similar outages on our HP Hyperv servers which had broadcom NICs. ran this ms fix on all network adapters as it caused similar symptoms to the ones you describe but the difference the network would come back after a reboot briefly.

I had this on a host, ended up remove Hyper-V roles and re-installing them. Also, deleted the Teamed NIC's and re-created. Think it was an update that caused the problem.

@dapaulio - There is never any connection at all from the guests. The host works perfectly all the time.

@teklogic - From what I've read elsewhere, this may be the way I need to head.

Nope. I was at BETT all day yesterday. At the moment I've removed the team, which then let me add a new virtual switch using just one of the NICs and now all the servers are running through that. Still need to sort it.

Whats the make and model of the server?

 

Are you configuring the team settings correctly, LACP?

 

Is the switch config correct?

It's a Fujitsu and I assume everything was configured correctly as the other servers setup identically all work fine, and this one worked fine until it was shutdown on this occasion. It's been rebooted before, and it was shutdown safely. So why now? I hate computers......
