Just wondered for the MATs out there, which MIS system are you using that features central reporting features?

We are a Primary School MAT and are looking into moving away from SIMS and wondered if anyone would had any experiences

Still using SIMS :p

How are you setup? Local install in each school? Cloud hosted by Capita? Do you have another location for central employee's or are they attached to an academy? Do you have any form of central reporting?

Sorry for all the questions!

We are a fairly newish MAT in the sense of the new added schools within the last year.

Setup in each school

Not Cloud based. Server onsite

No central location that i am aware of.

Yet again we currenly don't have a central reporting setup but i can guess this will change over time...

A lot changes behind the scenes as we joined the MAT and they have a system already setup but time will tell....

thanks for the replies.

Capita say they are going to introduce something for central reporting but won't be ready for another 12 months, i'm not sure we can wait that long and i think the cost of SIMS and various support contracts are pretty expensive.

central reporting features

I can give three options

1/ In-house - you're basically after BI. Build a BI solution, the most popular BI tool is Excel, so just a question of building a data warehouse, so extract data from the various schools MIS systems (SIMS?) then pull it all together. Fair about of pain - you can get in a firm in to help build - I was speaking to one in general about either doing a basic solution that'll be open source (then sell consultancy to setup\build extra bits of data to), or selling a packaged solution. Really depends on amount of interest if they'll do it however.

2/ Are you going to BETT? Someone has build some PowerBI solution, it looks interesting, I have a few reservations about it, but I think its a least worth a look - Bett Show 2016 - Matthew Woodruff

3/ Final one is Assembly - Although I'm a Microsoft guy, this looks the best by far, have a word with @bringmoredata for more info. If you haven't heard of Ark then check out, few keys bits

Anyway good luck!

thanks Matt, yeah I'm off to Bett so will check that out.

We are currently evaluating and so far (haven't finished with all aspects yet) Sims is working out to be a fair bit more expensive than comparable products.
