Printers printing too many copies

For the past couple of weeks (ever since I created a dedicated print server) a couple of printers around school (seems to be just HP CP2025n and HP M451dn/nw) print non-stop when you request more than one copy. Pressing the red stop button on the printer stops it printing eventually but we are ending up with hundreds of wasted pages (and toner) every day.

 

I did a bit of Googling and a lot of people recommend unticking 'enable bidirectional support' in the port properties. I have done this for all printers on the print server and it has not helped. I am using the latest HP Universal Printer driver on all printers, regardless of model.

 

Has anyone encountered this before and managed to fix the issue?

Have you used the right driver for each printer to see if that works or just using a HP LaserJet one?

 

I've had issues over the years using universal ones, caused all sorts of issues.

No but that's going to have to be my next solution. I've only ever used the universal driver but hopefully there won't be any issues with clients not having the correct drivers if I switch to model-specific drivers.

If you're deploying them from a central print server, there shouldn't be a problem using printer-specific drivers. Make sure you specify a 32-bit driver too if you've got any 32-bit clients on your network.

Using model specific drivers seems to have done the trick. I'm not aware of any issues since changing from the universal driver except on one printer that I forgot about.
