brilliant thanks for this im not getting any data in my year 7 -9 boxes though any ideas?

The report has dates for the months set in the sims report design section. The report uploaded is for 2015/16 so as the KS3 students didnt attend during those dates they arent getting any data. The KS4 attendance figures would be for 2015/16.

If in sims if you edit the report and then on the data fields page if you edit the date for each of the blue boxes to represent the dates for this school year then it should work.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread but the report is perfect for what I need. I am quite new to SIMS. I have amended the excel template but am having problems re attaching to report template. Would someone be so kind as to give me step by step instructions on how to do this?

When you edit the report on one of the last screens (Define Presentations Page) it will be selected on "Report Template", change this radio button to standard portrait and then change it back and it will ask you to pick the excel file.

Just to make sure you edited the spreadsheet from the exported rptdef file and not the resultant excel file from running the report as if the later it wont work. You need to make the changes in the empty excel and upload that.

Here's my effort if anyone wants it or wants to modify it further. I have based it on the original report and amended it to be half-termly (not monthly). It's called KPI attendance as that's what our Head wanted (Key Performance indicators) for a report he wants run half-termly. This calculates the whole school attendance etc on Y7-11 only, not including KS5. So although you can see the Y12 and 13 Year groups on there, they aren't in the averages. (That's one thing that is always annoying about the School Report)

I amended the report to include the same pupils that are on the School Report to make it as close as possible. Note it will never match 100% (certainly with persistent absence which is a bit of a nightmare). But it's at least repeatable and it gives the % persistent absence for each year group which the School Report does not (that only gives numbers of pupils). I also improved the averages to work on the actual figures, (not just average the averages as per the original report). I also changed the Persistent average to be >= to 10% (not just >10%) as that seems to be the way the School Report is worked out.

Note also both this report and School Report give different persistent absence than the sims reports > Persistent Absence reports as those include pupils that were on roll during the period and now are not. This report only includes who is on roll at the time the report is run. So through the course of the year the previous term's figures will gradually change (and become more inaccurate as time moves on) as pupils go off-roll.

I suggest it is run at the end of the last day of each half term (or the day after) to make it as accurate as poss. Please check for errors as it might not be perfect! (note if someone has entered future attendance marks eg work experience then it will show up on that term's figures even though we aren't yest at that term, eg Spring 1). (Also in the workings I haven't renamed many of the named ranges so it may be initially confusing if you want to edit the sheet as I just used them but adapted for my half-termly requirements)
