tben2505 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Hi folks I was wondering if it was possible to generate alerts when someone is absent. I know using discover groups we can alert the owner(s) of a custom discover group if someone enters or leaves (eg a discover group for pupils with <95% attendance) - but does anyone know a way to alert certain staff if a pupil is not present on a particular day? Another thing with discover, is that the attendance categories seem pre-defined - I can't remember how to change them - eg to look at kids in a different percentage category, eg <80% - can someone remind me how to do that!? Cheers all! Happy Friday... T
bobsmith Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Hi T! I've not found a way of doing alerts for daily absence, though I have written some easy reports where you can easily check attendance on the day for a selection of students. If it was one person it would be far faster just to type their name in the quick search box and then mouse over them to see the daily marks entered. As for discover - open the discover admin tool and you can change the thresholds in there. 1
PhilNeal Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I'm fairly sure that absence emails/tax are generated via InTouch
tben2505 Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 I'm fairly sure that absence emails/tax are generated via InTouch Hi Phil, I did double check this; but alerts only exist for behaviour and achievement, and can be customised only by type, and not pupil/year. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Cheers T
PhilNeal Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 @tben2505 - I've checked and you are right. They chose not to auto-alert parents just in case the issue was the register hadn't been taken. I've suggested that staff might require this. I'll ask a bit more - I think there is an attendance widget that lists absences. 1
PhilNeal Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I've had a quick word with the Product Manager. The best report is unexplained absences - which you probably already knew!
tben2505 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Yeah - not to worry - It was from a safeguarding PoV, where our safeguarding officer(s) would like to keep tabs on a handful of kids, and determine if they're in or not by just checking their mail, it's not a big one - just wondered if it was there! Thanks for asking around, Phil. T
neilenormal Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 If you have on the SIMS homepage, an attendance summary for the whole school, YTD, it shows the current attendance percentage of the school (when you hover mouse over it) in a nice graph. One of the choices at top right of graph is "Toggle" - this will then change to a list of pupils with "Todays unauthorised absences" Really useful feature, and under utilised possibly This might be useful to your user on a daily basis 1
