Mac Software Updates - Pages, Keynote, Numbers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have our Macs setup with Profile Manager and they pick up Software Updates from our Mac Server. However it seems that the Macs don't update any iWork App from Software Updates at all.

On some machines I have remoted in and manually opened App Store and completed an update on Pages, Keynote and numbers. As after some time it won't allow users to use them, unless updated to latest version.

Surely there is an easy way to update any iWork Apps over a network? Anyone have any ideas?

I tried looking for PKG files on the updates but cannot find a thing.

Thanks in advance.

Nick.

Yes! Need similar help. We bought a bunch of new MacBooks and of course the newer Pages which comes with those (5.6.1) is NOT compatible with the older Pages on the older MacBooks (5.5.3). I can actually copy the entire 300+MB file over wifi using ARD but it's of course very slow and any interruption kills it, or I can do as you have and manually log in to each one and update the apps. I thought also maybe I could try making a DeployStudio event which copies the file over and have the students manually update... But I agree there has to be a better way.

Another option would be to use VPP Managed Distribution to assign Pages, Keynote and Numbers to your Macs running 10.11 (or higher).

Request Mac apps through the Volume Purchase Program

If your business or educational institution is enrolled in the Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP), you can request redeemable content codes or managed distribution for Keynote, Numbers, Pages, GarageBand, and iMovie for Mac for qualifying computers purchased on or after 1 October 2013.

Requirements

  • You must be enrolled in the Volume Purchase Program (VPP).
  • You need a proof of purchase (invoice or purchase order) for the computers.
  • The number of eligible OS X Yosemite-compatible computers must be clearly marked on your proof of purchase.

I just keep apps like these updated on the server then copy them into Munki. From there they get pushed out to all the labs to update the apps.
