Windows 10 sysprep - Can we still use it with 3rd party cloning?

Dear All

 

Beginning the move to windows 10 here. Presently use Windows 7 Ent throughout.

 

First thing we've noticed is various errors with sysprep. With windows 7 we simple build a hardware based image including most the software, run sysprep - generalise - shutdown, capture the image with third party cloning software. Then distribute this image via our 3rd party cloning software.

 

All ran rather smoothly in our environment. However, with windows 10 do we need to finally succumb to the 'microsoft way' of deploying windows?

I don't see why not, If you SysPrep and Shutdown. take a clone of that, you should be able to just use that image.

 

It's pretty much what WDS does when it captures.

That being said, you'll have to do a clean install with Secure Boot options turned off before you capture!

I think it has already been mentioned, but the Fast Boot + Secure Boot options may be causing the problem. Apparently, not tested yet, but to bypass Fast Boot just reboot, not shutdown - Fast Boot does its thing when you shutdown.

Secure boot is turned off on all of our machines.

 

The problems seems to be within sysprep itself. We've had 2 or 3 various error messages when attempting to run sysprep. In one case we managed to run sysprep - generalise, the system shut down, rebooted but will not get past the preferences section. Its in a total loop no matter what settings you choose.

 

Must be missing something obvious?

Can you go through what you are doing to the machine before you are Sysprepping?

We are:

 

Installing windows 10

Running a couple of rounds of windows update

Installing a few third party drivers

 

And thats it! For initial testing we've not loaded anything like office on there.

It's odd that you are getting errors.

 

Have you tried creating an image using a 1511 ISO and not running the updates.?
