BETT 2016 - Logistics

Morning all,

 

I've not attended BETT since it moved. When it was at Olympia parking was great and I could leave Swansea at 5/5:30 on a Saturday morning and be there in plenty of time.

 

My school are a bit short sighted and refuse to let me miss lessons to go (I understand that of course) - so I'm debating once again going on a Saturday but have no idea of the logistics of this new location. Swansea to London is M4 but from there what am I looking at? I don't want to stay in a hotel as the school will not refund me so it would be up and back in a day.

 

What are others doing of great distance doing?

Ugh! Excel is the 'wrong' side of London for you Gareth. You need to go straight through the middle or round the North side and into the city on the M11. I'd do the latter unless the M25 is stuffed. It will add a fair amount of time to your car journey though

Thanks @elsiegee40 - That's what I thought. I don't think I'll bother but I feel as though I am missing out. Severe case of FOMO

I'm getting the train. It can take hours just getting from the outskirts to the centre of London via road! I once did a mile an hour in the car. Would have been faster to walk!

I live to the west of London too. If I'm not going into London on the train, I'll park at Hounslow West Underground Station and get the tube in. It's free at the weekends (well, certainly the last time that I parked there- and their website seems to agree) and is just off the M4 by Heathrow, so you miss all the traffic around Hammersmith etc.

 

Journey time on Underground is just over an hour with 2/3 changes so still a bit of a faff.

It does add about an hour to the car journey though (according to Google Maps) so it is understandable.

I'm traveling up from Plymouth on the Saturday morning. I'm getting the coach up and back. I've managed to get a return coach ticket for £20. If i was driving up i would probably park in Hayes & Harlington train station and then get the tube form there. a zone 1-6 travel card will be ok for that. When i have parked in Hayes & Harlington before it cost about £5 for all day.
