Net-Paper - school paper supplier Essex - have they gone bust?

We seem to have come unstuck with a paper supplier we've been using a while - they appear to have disappeared!

 

The company "Net-Paper" has stopped answering the phones and emails etc...

 

I'm not usually involved in this side of the printing, but I've been asked to investigate a little as we had paper from them on a pre-pay call-off account.

 

So, has anyone else used them or heard anything about them?

 

Their website and twitter accounts are still up, but if you search for Net Paper, Google has them coming up as "Permanently Closed".

Hmmm worrying as we are using them and have pre-paid for some amount of paper. Had a delivery of a pallet of paper just before Christmas and I did have some problems with them (wasn't delivered when it was supposed to be, hadn't been put into the system and they never got back to me to tell me how much paper we had left to draw down on).

 

Previous to that though they had been very responsive (normally getting a pallet of paper out to us within 2 days of me calling them). Are you using the number ending in 011?

 

Unless there is another NetPaper Paper for schools ? Netpaper ?

Just been speaking to our Bursar, yes they have gone into receivership.

Yup, just been given the document from the liquidator myself. Ho hum. Time to figure out how much of our money is in their hands and try and get what we can back!

 

A pain, but it happens. They weren't a young/bad company either really - almost 10 years old.

Yeah thankfully I think we got pretty much all we paid for from them. I am surprised as we had been using them for awhile and other than that last time they had been really good. Even one time when we had a shipment of paper that just didn't like to go through printers (it was really dusty) they sent out a replacement shipment the next day.

 

Need to find a new supplier now. KCS has been promising to match any price we can find so may just go with them.

We only very recently put an order in, so its looking like we're gonna be hit pretty hard. Not good.

Their Facebook account has gone, the twitter account last tweeted mid December. Bad Christmas for the Staff

Just found out how much we're in the hole for. Not good at all! Nearly 2000 reams undelivered.

Interestingly an individual is listed on netpaper.co.uk's whois data- whether that's something that's happened as part of the liquidation or not, I don't know.

That's the managing director, also named in the liquidation documents and at Companies House. Same guy you would often speak to on the phone when ordering stuff!

Well, sent off our proof of debt today. Fingers crossed we get some money back!

Have now received a bunch of documentation from DCA (the proposed liquidators).

 

My reading of it all is that there's pretty much no chance that we'll get any money back. The company owes money to HMRC. and their accounts are very poor (as it seems was their record keeping).

 

Considering there's no money, there's some faffing about with one of the creditors trying to appoint a different liquidator. Don't really see why though, as it all just seems to be a bit of a waste of time.

The saga continues... A new liquidator has now been appointed.

 

I'd be surprised if we get 5p in the £1 at the end of this!

Yep, sad but true unfortunately. Have got a family member who works for a big Insolvency Practitioner so regularly hear about the massive loopholes in the system that means genuine well-meaning people lose out substantial amounts of money.

 

The worst bit is that a lot of these directors will wind the company up instead of paying their taxes/creditors and their brother/cousin/parent etc will coincidentally open an identical business on the same premises and do the same 6/12 months down the line.

Indeed. Looking at the amounts paid out as dividends for the company, along with the Director's wage etc... It does seem like they cashed out a bit before the company went under. Although, they are also surrounding the thing with "woe is me" stories of bad divorces etc too.
