Have Samsung tablets but thinking of getting some Windows tablets insted

All our staff have decent laptops but they also need to photograph a lot of pupils work for evidence so we got some 8 inch Samsung Android tablets a few years ago. I have been asked to get another batch of tablets but not sure if I should stick with the same make / model.

 

The staff have been happy with the Samsung tablets but the price of a Windows tablet has fallen lots over the last few years.

 

So my options are

 

1 - Get another batch of Samsung tablets

 

2 - Get a Google Nexus 9 tablet as the school already uses GAFE and it can link in to GAFE.

 

3 - Get a Windows tablet as the school already has a Windows server and the staff could easily access their network drives, software and printers.

 

I am leaning towards a Windows tablet.

We have a Windows Tablet for that exact reason - photos can be taken and put directly only shared drive

 

And the teachers understand how it works as it is the same as their laptops and desktops

 

Also we use Target Tracker and it integrates directly into that

 

So far we only have one but will probably get more once all the infants teachers have had a go

 

Also - as there are loads of different types on the markey you can choose an appropite one based on what you need it for rather than just paying for an iPad

we have android for our 2build a profile software, our Parago asset management and our mindfulness app.

 

We have Acer and Linx Pro windows tablets available for School Pupil Tracker Online as it doesn't have an app.

 

We chose to use our exisiting windows tablets for SPTO because the photos that are included in SPTO are often also included in incident reports and other document based reports for outside agencies and having them just appear in the users home drive camera roll makes that process much easier and more intuitive.

We've tried a few over the last couple of years. I wouldn't recommend the Dell Venue 11 Pro. I'm unsure if they've resolved the issues with them yet, but we had quite a few recurring faults with most of the ones we had in.

 

We mostly use the VeryPC TerraPad now, which haven't caused us any issues at all at the moment and they've taken the daily rigours of education for over a year so far and are still fine.

 

I'd say if you have a use case for Windows tablets then that's what I'd get.

We do have a VeryPC account but looking at the spec they seem to only have a 2mp camera. Not sure, but don't think its going to be enough.

Just found they have a version that is 5mp. Do you have this version? Is the photo quality any good?

We've got 2 venue pro 11. One of them has been back under warranty 4 times (case split due to hinge on keyboard, damage to charging port, screen stopped responding halfway across and a battery fault), the other has been good as gold. Based on that alone I also wouldn't recommend them. I also wouldn't recommend them based on the fact that they are under specc'd for windows, the case is a bit flimsy for the strength of the keyboard hinge and the wireless is pretty lacklustre in terms of throughput and signal strength and the charging port is *really* fragile.

We actually only have the 2mp version. For what we use them for the quality is fine. It depends what you're doing really. I would have thought it would be ok for work evidence, but you would probably need to test it to make sure and it would depend on the level of detail i suppose.
