SimpleSi Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I'm a great fan of netbooks due to long battery life (makes them available all day in normal use) and cheaper than full sized laptops. However, in one of my schools the old 1G Samsungs aren't cutting it anymore. in last 2 years I've been buying Lenovo education netbooks (2GB and 1280x768 screen res) which work fine and I've had no hardware failures in 2 schools. Should I stick with these or has anyone bought something better recently? Simon
ITBadger Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Depends what you want to use them for. If you are a Google Apps For Education school then you could consider Chromebooks. They've proved to be tremendously popular here, and combined with Chrome RDP we have been able to use them for all requests.
dhicks Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Should I stick with these or has anyone bought something better recently? We've got 40-odd Lenovo laptops, and like yourself I don't think we've had any paticular problems with them - a couple of broken screens, but they seem pretty robust as far as school laptops go. Also, for your older Samsungs you might want to look at Neverware Cloudready to turn them into fully-managed Chromebooks. 1
achedgy Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Or... instead of buying new... Bump the memory up to 2gb and shove a 120GB SSD in, boost the speed significantly. Just done that to a trolley of 30x, staff and kids love them now!

psydii Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 HP Stream 11 (the edu sku) are going well here. Only have a handful so far, a bit fiddly to get going but looking like they will form the backbone of any future strategy .
AJWhite1970 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 We have lots of Samsung N145P Netbooks which are all upgraded with SSD's and they are running fine but any new Netbooks we are purchasing from now on are Acer TravelMate B116's
Eudora931 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I got some nice cheap Toshiba nbt's from RM
Sagima Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Ours infants/primary ones got replaced with iPads. We kept the old netbooks for a couple of years but none ever looked at them again. Never used them in the secondary school
