Overall impression then? Disappointed. It might be too early to go into details about the plot (spoilers and all that) but I think this could have been a lot better.

Just got round to watching this. Was putting it off as I can't stand River Song. It was...okish. Not the kind of Xmas Who romp I have come to enjoy.

Hopefully that will be the last of River Song :)

[spoilers to follow, but if you were interested in watching it you really should've gotten round to doing it by now.]

I liked it, it was refreshing to see River not recognising the Doctor for once, and the Doctor getting to do the whole 'it's bigger on the inside!' joke, and the way he took it above-and-beyond was hilarious. Though I do feel River should/would have cottoned on earlier.

The guy that played King What's-His-Face has been seen in Doctor Who a few other times before, hasn't he? I'm sure I've seen him before? It kind of took away from his presence to have seen him in the same sort of setting before.. Maybe I've just been watching too much Taskmaster?

Yay for mentioning Jim the Fish.

River's screwdriver was introduced rather poorly, though, I feel. In Silence in the Library River clearly states that they went to see the singing towers, you even gave me your screwdriver. Not a screwdriver. Your screwdriver. And the screwdriver is quite obviously a modification of Tennant's screwdriver (I actually have the official River's screwdriver and my housemate has the official Tennant's one, and it's even more apparent when you look at them both side-by-side).. I'd have even been happy with him finding an excuse to give her Tennant's basic one ("Well, it's an older model, sure, but it still works just as good.") and River responding that she'd modify it. ("Well, it's good, but I think it needs a woman's touch. Yours still doesn't work on wood, does it? I don't know why you won't change that.").. The way they introduced it.. "Here, have a screwdriver." was pretty disappointing.
