Is it possible for the admin to allow a user on RMCC3 to access one specific website only? I don't mean blocking every other website out there because that would be ridiculous, I mean only allowing the user to access one specified website while being blocked from the others.

I think you will probably need a proxy for this, might be wrong though

With a standard CC3 network, no, this is not possible. Additional software such as RM Tutor I think (rebadged NetSupport if I remember rightly) provides this functionality.

Thanks. The issue is this: a pupil needs access to school email which is on the school's website. There is concern that once the pupil was given access to the website s/he might access other websites. There is also concern s/he might be able to access the school's own system.

Hmm.. if the school website is on your LAN then you could try making a "custom user type" cloned from their normal one, but amended to have a bogus proxy server (e.g. 127.0.0.1) and a single proxy override entry for your school website.

Right few options as been said tutor 3 will do it. If using smartcache then can do it with this as well.

 

So if I can confirm you want users to able to access the webmail but nothing else.

 

One final option depending on how your RBC is setup will give embc as example here. anything *.embc.org.uk is classed as internal traffic and does not need to go through the proxy.

 

So we could in theroy disable user getting out smartcache/proxy settings so they can't access the internet. But they would still be able to access webmail.embc.org.uk for example. As said this depends on how your RBC is setup.

Thanks for last post ... I don't understand much of it but, yes, I want to know whether it's possible to restrict a pupil to webmail only. Sounds as tho it is with that extra, er, stuff/software.
