'Open File - Security Warning' - Start Menu

Hi Guys,

 

Sorry for creating yet another new post about this issue but I have tried the solutions that I have managed to find and it doesn't seem to have worked. Well, it has on the Windows 10 machines but not on the Windows 7 ones.

 

As you've probably already guessed I am getting the 'Open File - Security Warning' window whenever a shortcut from the Start Menu is click. The staff start menu is redirected from the following path: \\%schoolname%.local\userprofiles\staff\Start Menu .

 

Below is what I have already done.

 

Modified 'gpRedirectStartMenuStaff'.

 

User Configuration > Polices > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Attachment Manager

 

Setting:

 

Inclusion list for low file types. Set to Enabled.

 

Specify low risk extensions (include a leading period, e.g. .bmp;.gif;). Insert .lnk

 

As has already been established in previous threads; adding \\%schoolname%.local\userprofiles\staff\Start Menu into IE's Intranet Zone or as a Trusted Site is not going to solve as this only worked with XP.

 

As said, this has been successful on Windows 10 machines but not so much on Windows 7. Is there anything that I am missing?

 

I have run the Group Policy Results Wizard on my test PC using the test user and it is showing that the Group Policy setting is definitely being set.

 

I have read here that changing the integrity level of the path to medium using ICALCS can solve it, but how do I go about using Group Policy to achieve this? I'm guessing that just running this from a computer on the path is only going to fix it for the particular computer and user that I am using at the time? This will not fix the issue school wide?

 

Sorry if I am making a silly mistake somewhere. Hopefully somebody can help ....?

it dosent only work with xp that work with 7\8 as well

I have tried setting it as a Trusted Site, but doesn't seem to be working. It isn't putting the UNC path in exactly has set.

It isn't solving my issue. Whether this is due to the slight difference. Is there a way that I can get it to show exactly as I would like it?

Can't quite remember but I think I used the fqdn server name in Trusted sites, it was a few years ago.

you dont want trusted you want intranet zone

 

sorry i misread slightly i think i have it set here (ive just added domain.local dont see any need to more restrictive than that)
