Exchange 2010 Distribution Groups

On our Exchange 2010 distribution lists I can see security groups\distribution groups that have been setup on the domain controller.

 

They follow a Year2011, Year2012, Year2013, Year2014, Year2015 pattern in the OU on the domain controller and as far as I know the Exchange server picked these up automatically up to the Year2014 group but it doesn't display the Year2015 group and as such the group does not appear in the Global Address List.

 

I'm sure I setup the Year2015 group on the DC just like the others so does anybody have any idea why it wouldn't be displayed in the distribution lists on the Exchange server? I've tried adding it manually only to be told it already exists or that it can't search the OU I'm pointing at.

Usually it's unticked by default but is 'do not show in address list' unchecked?

Might be an offline address book issue - perhaps force an update?

As well as the tick box have you checked in AD if this is set msExchHideFromAddressLists ?

I think it needs to be a universal group.

 

I usually just create distribution groups via exchange

Sorry but whereabouts am I looking for this checkbox or msExchHideFromAddressLists?

 

Changing to a universal group didn't appear to make a difference but the others aren't set this way anyhow.

 

I've set up other distribution groups through Exchange without problems but the ones I speak of here were pre-exisiting and other entries in the Exchange distribution list appear to have been automatically created from security groups.

I've resolved it, probably not the right way round to do things but I just set the Year2015 group to universal instead of global then Exchange found it when I ran the 'Add Distribution List' wizard and pointed it at the right OU. Then I just set the Year2015 group back to Global.

Yes in Exchange 2010 onwards only universal groups can be mail enabled. That may have been the case from Ex2007, but I'm not sure on that.
