Making your own power connections?

I am needing 16 of these and at no cheaper than ~£6.50 each, I figured it would be cost effective to make my own. I can get the single gang mains socket for £1.48 each and the IEC C14 for £0.63 each. I have plenty of IEC C13 cables I can use the cable from.

 

Now my question relates to legal/H&S concerns. Can I, not being a qualified electrician, make and install these in our school?

Ignoring all the better answers above for a moment. Are you competent? If so, yes. If not, no.

I would say no. The problem comes if something goes wrong. The question would be did the school exercise it's duty of care in providing the equipment. If you are making up electrical kit and you have no certifications, then it would be difficult to say they had. Any claim against your public liability insurance may also be problematic. So just to save less than £40, no!

You could make them up but you would be required to get them PAT tested by a qualified person before using them.
